Joshua Smith, Château de Purnon, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and lots more on Weekend Meanderings.
Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet! This is our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye.
Thank goodness it is the weekend. We have had people in and out of the house all week, which means non-stop barking and noise for the week. My 3 pups are well trained but they do not like strangers in the house talking and making noise.
The good news is that the dusts has settled, in and on everything. The ceiling where the tree fell and the skylight at the opposite end of the same room are insulated and are now covered with drywall. They are also taped and sanded, which is why everything is dusty.
The list for the tree project is growing shorter. All that is left is:
- brickwork, the upper 1/4 of the facade of the house is missing all of its bricks
- painting inside and out
- landscape
- windows
- landscape lights
- gutters
- and a few small things.
Hopefully everything will be finished in the next few weeks.
What about you? What is going on at your house? Any projects? Holidays? Adventures?
Ok, on to Weekend Meanderings
One to Follow~Joshua Smith
Are you a Homeworthy fan? This week while perusing the new episodes I discovered Joshua Smith. He and is his home are amazing. His designs are a mix of new and old, modern and country and everything in between. There are beautiful collections, art, crystals and more.
Joshua began his career in Texas but after a few years sold everything he owned and moved to NY toattend the New York School of Interior Design. He then worked with Steven Gambrel before starting his own from Joshua Smith, Inc in 2013. He is also a certified Life Coach and Meditation teacher.
See more of Joshuas’ work on Instagram and his website.
Wanderlust~Château de Purnon
Have you ever dreamed of moving to France and restoring a chateau? If so you are going to want to follow Felicity Selkirk and former Australian politician Tim Holding, who purchased Chateau de Purnon was they restore this 105 year old chateau.
Chateau de Purnon is a historic French chateau located in the commune of Verrue in the department of Vienne, just south of the Loire Valley. The château was constructed between 1779 and 1788 for Antoine-Charles Achard, Marquis de la Haye. In 1893, the château was purchased by the Marquis de Rochequairie whose family sold to its current owners in 2020.
Constructed during the reign of Louis XVI the chateau was completed just prior to the start of the French Revolution and was promptly abandoned. Ten years later the owner returned and found the chateau just as he had left it.
Set over 60 acred of parkland, Chateau de Purnon looks north over the Scevolles forest. Inside the Château’s stone walls lie stables, a chapel, and so much more. There are also stone farmhouses a pigion house that at one time held 600 pigeons, a walled garden, a green house and other buildings.
Because the house is classified a Historical Monument everything done to restore the chateau has to go through the Ministry of Culture and must be restored accurately and by trained artisans. This is not a DIY project although the owners are taking on a few projects.
One of my favorite things is that when the current owners began they brought on the head architect of Chateau de Versailles to help with the renovation. His first piece of advice was to clear the attics and throw nothing away. They removed centuries of beds, trunks, furniture, etc and sorted it in the outbuildings so that they could stat repairing the roof. Watch this video to see what they discovered.
You can follow along with the restoration of Chateau de Purnon on Instagram and learn more about the projects on the official website. Should you find yourself in the area the chateau is open to the public on September 23 & 24th, 2024.

Nordstrom Sale
Have you shopped the Nordstrom sale? Everybody is talking about the “best” sale of the year. Truth be told I haven’t found much to buy the last few years. This year though I found a few things I think that you might like!
Early Access to the sale is based upon your Nordy Club status,
- Icon: July 9
- Ambassador: July 10
- Influencer: July 11
- Public access – Open to everyone: July 15
Some items will definitely sell out, possibly before your “status” is open to shop. I had a few things on my wish list, like this coat, and they are already sold out. Oh well, there is still lots of good stuff and they will add more once the sale opens to everyone.
Add a few Fall and Winter pieces to your wardrobe. This plaid coat is a great piece, I have the wool black watch version of this coat and it looks great all season long with boots or shoes.
By the way, returns are FREE! Thank you for using my links, if you do I may receive a small commission.
Have you already shopped the sale and found something that you thing we need let us know about? If so, please leave a comment to let us know.
